Where UK business grows

If you're an AdWords advertiser, Google Advertising Professional, or just interested in learning more about AdWords, you can use google's free training to sharpen your AdWords knowledge. They offer both multimedia and text lessons to match your preferred learning style. While lessons are organized to build upon previous ones, you can skip between topics and take them in any way you like. After each lesson, test your knowledge by taking a quiz. Because so much is covered, you probably can't complete training in one sitting (without the help of caffeine), so return often. Content is updated regularly to keep you current.

This sounds like your keywords were too general. Try using phases and keywords that are specific to your ranges of products. You can run several campagns which will target specific brands or ranges within those brands. The click throughs will of course be less than for general keywords such as LIPSTICK of course, but the conversion rate should be much higher.

Hi Maria,
We found that Adwords was a great way to lose money! We were spending £400-£900 every month without realising just how much it was truly costing us in click fraud and lack of conversions. We were getting plenty of orders, thinking we were doing great. We even employed companies to manage our campaigns.

We then installed conversion tracking software into our website so that we could see where our business was coming from. We were shocked to find that a single conversion was costing between £9 -£38! By using Analytics and Rapid Stats we were finding that the majority of people using Adwords were SEO, Telemarketing, phone & utility companies clicking your advert to get your contact details. The minute we cut Adwords between 9.00-5.30 these call stopped dead. I would advise any small business to tread carefully with Adwords, its an easy way to lose a lot of your hard earned money.

just my opinion.

Cheers

That's a very good tip about the 9 - 5.30 time frame, and well worth looking at checking up on.
